With the Scales question type, participants can rate statements on a scale. This is good to use if you have questions with numeric answers, want the audience to rate something, or if you want to generate statistics that you can use for analyzing trends and tendencies.
Create a Scales question
This is how you create a Scales question in Mentimeter:
Add a new slide by click the +New Slide button
Choose the Scales slide type
Enter in your question by clicking on the header section of the slide canvas:
4. Enter statements to rate by clicking on each statement field on the slide canvas and typing the statement.
5. You can change the visualization color for that statement and reorder the statements with the options that appear when a statement field is selected:
6. You can choose if you would like statements to be optional by selecting Statements can be skipped in the Edit tab.
Additional functionality
Show statement average
This feature allows you to get an average of all statements in the Scales slide. To enable it, toggle the Show statement average option in the Edit tab.
Change labels and values
You can change the top and bottom values for the slide by clicking on those fields directly on the slide canvas and typing the new value there. You can also adjust the minimum and maximum value in the Range fields that appear when that field is selected:
The mid-range values can be adjusted in the Edit tab under Dimensions:
When moving the slider to any of the high, low or mid value labels on your Scales question, you will see auto-suggestions appear in the voting view. Those enable tooltips for the voters; helping them to interpret different numerical values in a Likert scale.
Get responses on your Scales question
When you get a response, it will slide from left to right corresponding to the participant's answer. You will also see the distribution of responses as a graph just above the specific lines. With more responses, the number in the circle will show the weighted average of all the responses. You can read more about responding on Scales questions here.
If you want to see the exact distribution of responses, you can move your mouse cursor over the lines.
If you want to take the rating to the next level, let your audience rate items in two dimensions instead of one! Use our 2 by 2 Grid in order to do that.
How is the average calculated?
The scales average is calculated as follows:
(number of people who responded on a value * the value) / (total number of people who responded)
Participants who chose to "skip" are not counted as a number of people who responded.
