Who is this guide for?
This guide is for Canvas LMS administrators and Mentimeter Admins who want to connect Mentimeter to their institution’s Canvas environment.
Note: In order for your instructors to sync grades, you will need to also enable "Show Participant Names", by toggling it on under Workspace Settings > Permissions
The Canvas integration is available for Mentimeter Enterprise subscriptions.
Step 1: Create a new LTI integration in Mentimeter
Log into Mentimeter
Navigate to Workspace settings > LTI Integration
Click + Generate URL.
A new Dynamic Registration URL will be generated. Copy this URL, and continue to step 2.
Note: You can create multiple integrations from your Mentimeter workspace. Each integration connects your workspace in Mentimeter to your Canvas instance.
Step 2: Add the LTI tool to your Canvas Account or Course (via Apps)
Log into your Canvas instance as an admin.
Go to Admin > Choose account > Apps > Manage
Click the Install a New App button
Pre-selected is LTI version 1.3 and Dynamic Registration. Paste the Dynamic Registration URL you copied from Mentimeter.
Click Next to review the integrations in the steps that follow before clicking Install App.
Review the permissions to allow Mentimeter to create/update and submit grades. We require the permissions set. Unchecking these boxes will render the integration useless.
Data sharing: You choose how much data to share with us. The integration supports all options, but if you choose "Canvas ID only", the experience when seeing participant names during a Menti will be sup-optimal as you see "Student-123456" instead of a student's name.
Choose the placements where Mentimeter should be shown. We have by default enabled three placements but you can uncheck or change the names on these placements with no major impact. You know best where instructors wish to discover this tool.
Now that the App is created, go to the three dots at the end of the new row, and click Copy Client ID
Go to Settings > Apps > View App Configurations.
If you want to add the integration to only a specific, then at this stage, go to a specific Course > Settings > Apps > View App Configurations.
Click + App > By Client ID.
Paste the Client ID and press Submit.
Your Mentimeter tool is now ready to use either account wide, or in the specific subaccount or course you chose.

Step 3: Set up grading permissions
In order to be able to grade student assignments using the integration, you will need to enable some permissions in your Mentimeter workspace settings.
To do this, go to the Workspace settings menu, select the Permissions submenu, then enable the Collect participant names option under Member permissions:
Another way to set up the integration (Legacy): Add the LTI tool to your Canvas Account or Course (via Developer keys)
Note: This method is being removed from Canvas very soon.
Log into your Canvas instance as an admin.
Go to Admin > Developer Keys.
Select + Developer Key > LTI Registration.
Paste the Mentimeter LTI URL you copied from Mentimeter.
Review or update the settings, and save the Developer Key.
See the yellow box below for which settings can be edited, and which are required.
From the Developer Key you just created, copy the Client ID.
Go to Settings > Apps > View App Configurations.
If you want to add the integration to only a specific, then at this stage, go to a specific Course > Settings > Apps > View App Configurations.
Click + App > By Client ID.
Paste the Client ID and press Submit.
Your Mentimeter tool is now ready to use either account wide, or in the specific course you chose.
