Use The Compare slide to show your audience how responses shifted between two moments in a session, for example, asking the same question before and after a discussion, and revealing the difference together, live in the moment.
How do I add a Compare slide?
There are two ways to add a Compare slide in Mentimeter.
Option 1: from the slide panel:
Open your presentation in Edit view (the editing screen where you build your slides).
Click Add slide.
Select Compare slide from the Content slides section. The new Compare slide is added to your presentation with two empty slide slots.
Option 2: by right-clicking an existing slide:
In Edit view, right-click the slide you want to compare (for example, your opening confidence poll).
Select Compare from the menu.
A new Compare slide is inserted directly after the slide you right-clicked, with that slide pre-loaded as the first source. You only need to pick the second slide.
How do I choose which two slides to compare?
You select the two source slides directly on the Compare slide in Edit view:
On the Compare slide, click the + Select 1 slide button.
Pick your first source slide from the sidebar that opens.
Click the second slot and repeat to pick your second source slide.
Both slides now appear as thumbnails on the Compare slide, confirming your selection is saved.
Remember: when using a Compare slide, both source slides must come before the Compare slide in the presentation order, and Quiz slides cannot be selected.
How do I change which slides are being compared?
You can swap either source slide on a Compare slide at any time, before or during your presentation:
Go to the Compare slide in Edit view.
Click Change slide on the source slide you want to replace.
Pick a new source slide from your presentation. The thumbnail updates immediately to show the new selection.
What happens when I present a Compare slide?
Nothing extra is required during the live session. When you navigate to the Compare slide while presenting, both source slides appear side by side automatically, and their results continue to update in real time as participants respond.
In the example above, the same Scales question "How confident are you in our Q3 plan?" was asked once at the start of the session and once after the discussion. The Compare slide shows both results side by side, making the shift in confidence visible to the whole room. Both results stay live, so if participants are still responding to either question, the averages update on the Compare slide in real time.
For the before/after use case: present the first question, run your discussion, present the second question, then advance to the Compare slide to reveal the shift.
Who can use Compare slides, and what are the limitations?
Before you build one, check these constraints for the Compare slide feature:
Compare slides are available on all Mentimeter plans, including the free plan.
Compare slides work in live Mentimeter presentations. Both source slides must be slides in the same presentation.
Both source slides must appear earlier in the slide order than the Compare slide itself. You cannot compare a slide that comes after it.
You can compare any slide type except Quiz slides (Select Answer and Type Answer). If you need a before/after knowledge check, use Multiple Choice slides instead of Quiz slides.
Results on the Compare slide update in real time — a Compare slide does not create a static snapshot.
