Setting up SSO for your subscription enables Mentimeter users in your organization to easily access their account using their company credentials. If you would like to set up SSO, make sure that you have an Enterprise subscription and reach out to your relationship manager. Good to know about SSO at Mentimeter is that we support SAML 2.0 protocol.

Before Setting Up SSO

Verify Email Domains

Note: If your email domain(s) are already verified, you can skip this step.

  1. Verify ownership of your email domains.

  2. Go to the Mentimeter Workspace Settings page.

  3. Scroll down to the Domain Control setting.

  4. Follow the steps to verify your domain(s). Detailed instructions can be found here.

  5. Once the domain verification process is complete, proceed to the SSO setup.

Setup a Workspace Name

  1. Go to “Workspace Settings”

  2. Find the first section called Workspace name and choose the name of your organisation

Setting Up SSO

1. Create an Application in your Identity Provider

  • Create a new Mentimeter application in your Identity Provider.

  • Go to ‘Single sign-on’ to set up a new configuration.

Note: We support SP initiated SSO at Mentimeter

Please refer to the following articles for further details on setting up SSO in Entra ID and OKTA.

2. Add Mentimeter’s SSO Details in your Identity Provider

  • Sign in to your Mentimeter workspace as an Admin or Owner.

  • Go to the Mentimeter SSO setup page: SSO Setup.

  • Update the Mentimeter application in your Identity Provider. Ensure that the application is configured with the details provided on the Mentimeter SSO setup page.

3. Set Up Attributes in your SSO application

Ensure that NameID policy is set to persistent. We also require that an email attribute is released in the response.

NameID policy:

  • Within the Mentimeter application in your Identity Provider, go to the section to add ‘Attributes’.

  • If you are using Entra ID:

  • Click user.userprincipalname [nameid-format:emailAddress].

  • Click Email Address.

  • Change this format to “persistent”.

  • Click Save.

Email attribute:

In most cases the formats are by default the correct ones (i.e. EntraID & Okta). To ensure the email attribute passed in your SSO application is in the correct format, please configure it to match one of the supported formats by Mentimeter. The supported formats are:

  1. Go to the attribute mapping section in your Identity Provider’s Mentimeter setup.

  2. Find the email attribute field.

  3. Select or enter one of the supported formats.

  4. Save the configuration.

3. Add Your SSO Details in Mentimeter

From your Identity Provider, copy the following fields and paste them into the Mentimeter SSO setup page:

  • Metadata URL

  • Click ‘Add SSO Configuration’

5. Add a User/Group to the Mentimeter Application

Add a user or group of users to the Mentimeter application in your IdP to ensure the right people are permitted to sign in with SSO.

It is recommended to add a user to test the SSO configuration first.

6. Test Your SSO Configuration

  • To log in with SSO, go to Mentimeter SAML Login.

  • Enter your Workspace name (if unknown, please ask your sales representative).

  • Sign in with the user’s credentials.
