After you have created a Quiz competition, it's time to play! The Quiz competition can be hosted live or remotely but needs to be presented in real-time and be set to Presentation mode.

For technical reasons, the recommended audience size is up to 2,000 players. If you want to use the Quiz for a larger audience or as a survey you can select the Multiple Choice question type instead.

How to start

When you are ready to host your Quiz Competition, click 'Present'. This will take you to the Initial Lobby where the participants join, get assigned an avatar, and enter their nickname.

When you are ready to start the first quiz question, press Enter on your keyboard or the 'Start countdown' button, and the game is on!

During the game

The question appears and the participants need to answer before the countdown ends. When the countdown has run out, or everyone has voted, the results and the correct answer will be shown.

The audience can also see whether they have answered correctly on their phones. Read more about participating in a Quiz here.

If you have added a leaderboard at the end of your Quiz, the final winner will be revealed:

Pro tip:

  • Quiz participation is calculated per voting device so if you wish to have your audience participate in teams you can ask them to group together (live or remotely) and submit responses from one device per team.

  • If any of your Quiz participants entered the wrong nickname for their avatar, you can simply hover over the nickname in the leaderboard and click on it to make it go back to the default name.

FAQ

Why aren't my participants assigned an avatar and asked to enter their names?

There can be two reasons for this. The first is that you are not using Quiz slides. The avatar, nickname and leaderboard feature only work if you are using Quiz slides (not Question slides). If you want to use these features, make sure you have selected the right slide types. Learn more about the difference between Quiz slides and Question slides.

The other reason is that the participants have already connected to this quiz before. Mentimeter remembers devices, so if you connect to a quiz again, you will automatically be assigned the same avatar and nickname as before.

If you want participants to be able to enter a new nickname, you can ask them to clear the browser cache in their voting devices, and then connect to the quiz again.

I added a Leaderboard, but no results are shown. What went wrong?

The Leaderboard automatically shows the total scores up to that point in the presentation, but it only calculates scores for Quiz-type slides (not Question slides). If no results are shown, it is likely the presentation contains Question slides instead of Quiz slides. Double-check which slide types you're using and if necessary, change them into Quiz slides.

Help! When I try to present my Quiz, I get the error message "We have issues connecting to the quiz. If the problem persists, contact hello@mentimeter.com." What do I do?

If you are receiving this error message, it means that you have a problem with your network. Are you on a corporate network? Some corporate networks block our Quiz web socket endpoint so you may need to talk to your local IT technician and get them to reconfigure the firewall. Please show them this page, specifically the section under 'Network Configuration’. Once they have reconfigured the firewall you'll be able to run your Quiz without issue.
