This guide walks you through setting up SAML-based Single Sign-On (SSO) for Mentimeter using Google Workspace as your Identity Provider (IdP).
Before you begin
Confirm you have Google Workspace Admin access
Ensure you have Mentimeter Admin access and are on an Enterprise plan
To ensure a more controlled and orderly process, we recommend that you verify your email domains and add a workspace name before proceeding with this SSO setup.
Step 1: Create a custom SAML app in Google Workspace
Sign into Google Admin: admin.google.com with an Admin account
Navigate to Apps → Web and mobile apps
Click Add App → Add custom SAML app
Give the app a name (e.g. “Mentimeter SSO”)
Upload an icon (optional)
Step 2: Configure Service Provider details (Mentimeter → Google)
In this step you will enter the Mentimeter SAML endpoints into Google.
From your Mentimeter Admin go to SSO settings and copy the following:
ACS URL
Entity ID
In Google, paste them into the Service Provider details screen:
ACS URL → paste Mentimeter ACS URL
Entity ID → paste Mentimeter Entity ID
Start URL → leave empty
Signed response → leave default
Next, set the following:
Name ID format: Persistent
Name ID: Primary email
Step 3: Set up attributes
Configure user attributes
Primary email —> email
First name —> givenName
Last name —> surName
Recommended step: Choose the source attribute for NameID to be something unique for each user. This will help out in the scenarios if you have a user who changes their email address, as we will then be able to log the user into the right account.
Click “Save” and then close the pane.
Step 4: Assign the app to users
To allow your users to authenticate:
Open the newly created Mentimeter SSO app
Go to User access
Enable the app for everyone or for selected groups/org units
If a user is not assigned here, they will not be able to log in.
Step 5: Add SSO details in Mentimeter
1. Download metadata
In Google Admin, click Download Metadata to get the XML file.
2. Send it to Mentimeter
Share the XML file with your Mentimeter contact.
We’ll import it and confirm once SSO is active and ready to test.
Self-service XML upload is coming soon.
Once these steps are complete, you should be ready to sign in to Mentimeter with SSO using the account added to the application. You can now try to assign the correct users/groups to the application of those who should be able to sign in with SSO.
If you’re experiencing issues with the configuration, please contact your sales representative for assistance.
Optional: Workspace name and login URL
These settings help users land in the right workspace when signing in with SSO.
Workspace Name
Enter the name of your Mentimeter workspace as you want it displayed on the SSO login page.
This is purely cosmetic but helps users confirm they’re in the right place.
Workspace URL
Define the custom SSO login URL your users will use (e.g. company.mentimeter.com/sso).
Share this link internally so employees can go straight to the SSO flow.
