Who is this guide for?
This guide is for instructors who want to add an existing Menti presentation to their Blackboard course. The integration in Blackboard is available for Mentimeter Enterprise subscriptions.
If your Blackboard administrator has already enabled the Mentimeter integration, you can easily add interactive Mentimeter presentations directly into your course content.
Note: In order to add Mentis to Blackboard, your Blackboard administrator needs to first install the integration for your Blackboard environment. Please refer to this article for instructions on how to set this up.
Step 1: Add a Mentimeter presentation to your course
1. Open your course
Go to your Blackboard course
Navigate to the content area where you want to add Mentimeter
Click Add Content
Select Content Market
Choose Mentimeter
2. Connect your Mentimeter account (first time only)
If this is your first time using the integration, you need to first connect your Mentimeter account.
Click Connect
Log in to your Mentimeter account
Authorize the connection
Your accounts are now linked. You only need to do this once.
3. Select or create a presentation
After connecting, you’ll see a list of your existing Mentimeter presentations. You can select an existing presentation or create a new one. Once selected, click Add Mentimeter.
Step 2: Choose your activity type
When adding a presentation, you must decide how participation should work.
You can either create an anonymous activity (no tracking) or create a graded activity (participation is tracked and synced to Gradebook).
Option 1: Anonymous activity (no tracking)
We recommend using this option for:
Icebreakers
Pre-course surveys
Open feedback
Non-graded activities
Note: In order for participation to be anonymous, make sure that Participant names are required and Participants are required to log are disabled in your Menti's Interactivity tab.
This allows students to join using:
A QR code
A voting code
Or the LMS link (depending on your setup)
Optional: Restrict Access to LMS Only
If you want students to access the presentation only via Blackboard:
Clear previous results (required before changing participation mode).
Set participants to join via LMS only.
Option 2: Graded activity (or track participation)
You can use this option for:
Quizzes
Tracking participation
Grading assignments
Formative assessments
In order for grading to work correctly, you must enable specific settings.
Open the Menti
Clear previous results (required if results already exist)
Go to the Interactivity tab
Make sure:
Participant names are required is enabled
Participants are required to log is enabled
These two settings must be ON for grading to work.
What students see
Students will:
Open the activity in Blackboard.
Click Launch.
Participate in the Mentimeter questions.
If grading is enabled:
Their name and participation will be recorded.
Their activity will be eligible for Gradebook sync.
Step 3: Sync results to the Blackboard Gradebook
Once students have participated you can:
Open the Mentimeter activity
Confirm that responses have been received and go to the Results tab
Click the Sync to LMS button
Choose whether you want to track attendance or participation:
Once this is done, go to your course Gradebook and you'll see the new grade column. Students who participated will receive credit (e.g., 100% for full participation).
Understanding Menti's Interactivity settings in Blackboard
Participant names are required
This setting will ask students to enter their name in order to participate. This must be enabled if you want to sync grades to Blackboard. Disable it if you want participation to be anonymous.
Participants are required to log in
When enabled, this setting will only allow students to participate in the Menti from their Blackboard interface. If they try to participate by other means (like scanning the QR code on their phones), they will be instructed to join via Blackboard.
Important Notes
You must clear results before changing participation settings.
For grading to work:
Participant names must be required.
Participants must be recorded.
Anonymous activities cannot be synced to the Gradebook.
Each presentation must be configured individually (anonymous or graded).
