Note: this feature is only available in Menti Live.
In case your audience enters undesired words , or you simply want to remove addressed input or tidy up the results before exporting your presentation to a PDF, you can remove input from Word Clouds and Open Ended questions.
You can remove an unwanted response from a Word Cloud or Open Ended slide that wasn't captured by our Profanity filter, while you present. The fastest way is to hide the response from the Mentimote: the response leaves the presentation screen and participants can keep responding. Use this article to remove an inappropriate response during a live session, clear responses you have already discussed, tidy up a slide before you export your results, or restore a response you removed by mistake.
Removing responses from Word Cloud and Open Ended slides is available on all plans, and the Mentimote is available in Menti Live on Pro and Enterprise plans.
Choosing how to remove a response
There are two ways to remove a response from a Word Cloud or Open Ended slide in Menti Live:
Hide the response from the Mentimote. Responding stays open, so participants can keep submitting responses. Use this method when you need to remove a response quickly without interrupting the session.
Remove the response in the presentation view. You must close responding on the slide first. Use this method when you are presenting without the Mentimote.
Both methods have the same result. The response is removed from the presentation screen, but it is not deleted, and you can restore it from the Mentimote.
Hiding responses from the Mentimote while responding stays open
Hiding a response from the Mentimote removes the response from the Word Cloud or Open Ended slide on the presentation screen. Responding stays open, so participants can continue to submit responses while you moderate. The Mentimote is Mentimeter's presentation remote, which you can open on your smartphone or on a second screen.
To hide a response from the Mentimote:
Open the Mentimote. In the presentation view, hover your cursor over the top-right corner of the screen and click Open Mentimote. You can also open your Menti, click the drop-down arrow next to the Start presentation button in the top-right corner, and select Open Mentimote.
Navigate to the Word Cloud or Open Ended slide that has the response you want to remove.
In the right panel of the Mentimote, select the Responses tab.
Click the Hide icon next to the response you want to remove. The Hide icon is an eye with a line through it.
The hidden response disappears from the Word Cloud or Open Ended slide on the presentation screen. Responding on the slide stays open, and your session continues.
Hiding a response removes every matching response
Hiding or removing a response on a Word Cloud or Open Ended slide removes every matching response at the same time, not only one submission. Matching is not case-sensitive. For example, if participants submit "Pizza", "pizza" and "PIZZA", hiding "pizza" removes all three responses from the slide.
Removing responses in the presentation view
Removing a response in the presentation view lets you remove input from a Word Cloud or Open Ended slide without opening the Mentimote. You must close responding on the slide before you can remove a response in the presentation view.
To remove a response in the presentation view:
Press the C key on your keyboard to close responding on the slide.
Remove the response:
On a Word Cloud slide, hover over the word you want to remove and click the word.
On an Open Ended slide, click the Trash icon in the bottom-left corner of the response box.
Press the C key again to reopen responding, if you want participants to continue responding.
The response is removed from the Word Cloud or Open Ended slide on the presentation screen. A response removed in the presentation view is hidden in the same way as a response hidden from the Mentimote, so you can restore the response from the Mentimote.
What happens to a hidden or removed response
A response you hide in the Mentimote or remove in the presentation view is removed from the presentation screen only. The response is not deleted:
The hidden response is still saved in your results.
The hidden response is still included when you export your results.
You can restore the hidden response from the Mentimote at any time.
Restoring a hidden response
Restoring a hidden response shows the response on your Word Cloud or Open Ended slide again. You restore hidden responses from the Mentimote, whether you hid the response in the Mentimote or removed it in the presentation view.
To restore a hidden response:
Open the Mentimote and navigate to the Word Cloud or Open Ended slide.
In the right panel of the Mentimote, select the Responses tab.
Hover over the Hide icon (an eye with a line through it) next to the hidden response. The icon changes to an eye.
Click the eye icon.
The response appears on the Word Cloud or Open Ended slide on the presentation screen again. Every matching response is restored at the same time.
Limitations when removing responses
Removing responses from Word Cloud and Open Ended slides has the following limitations:
Removing responses is available on allplams. The Mentimote is available on Pro and Enterprise plans only.
Removing responses is available in Menti Live only. You cannot remove responses this way in Menti Form or Menti Pulse.
Hiding a response does not delete it from your results or exports.
To stop inappropriate words from appearing in the first place, enable the profanity filter on your Word Cloud or Open Ended slide.
