How to connect ChatGPT or Claude to Mentimeter using MCP

Connect your AI assistant to Mentimeter to create Mentis without leaving the chat.

Create and edit Mentis directly from ChatGPT or Claude, no need to switch tabs. This article covers how to connect an AI assistant to your Mentimeter account, what it can do, and how it relates to your workspace's AI features setting.

Before you start

  • You need an existing Mentimeter account.

  • Your workspace needs two settings turned on: AI tools (the existing setting used by the in-app AI Menti Builder) and AI assistant connections (specifically controls whether ChatGPT/Claude can connect at all). See "How this relates to your workspace settings" below for further details.

  • You'll need access to ChatGPT or Claude with the ability to connect custom apps/connectors.

Connect ChatGPT to Mentimeter

  1. In ChatGPT, go to Settings → Connectors/Apps.

  2. Search for Mentimeter and select it.

  3. Choose Connect. You'll be redirected to Mentimeter to log in (if you aren't already) and approve the connection.

  4. Review the permissions requested and select Allow.

  5. Mentimeter is now connected. You'll be taken back to ChatGPT.

Connect Claude to Mentimeter

  1. In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors.

  2. Search for Mentimeter and select Connect.

  3. Log in to Mentimeter if prompted, review the permissions requested, and select Allow.

  4. Mentimeter is now connected. You'll be taken back to Claude.

Note: You will authenticate with your existing Mentimeter login. ChatGPT and Claude never see or store your Mentimeter password, and access is granted through a secure sign-in process (OAuth), the same technology used by "Sign in with Google" and similar connections.

What you can do once connected

Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT or Claude to create a Menti Live for you. For example, type: "Create a Menti Live for my team retro tomorrow, 5 slides, casual tone." The assistant will:

  1. Ask you a few clarifying questions if needed (audience, tone, language, number of slides).

  2. Create the Menti in your Mentimeter Account.

  3. Give you a link to view or edit it, plus a short summary of what was created.

What data is shared

The AI tools will only see what is needed to create your Menti: your instructions and where relevant the audience, tone, language and number of slides you specify. They will see your full conversation history with the assistant. For the full breakdown of what's collected, how it's used, and your controls, see Opting out of Mentimeter's AI features and our Terms page.

How this relates to your AI features setting

Connecting ChatGPT or Claude uses the same AI features setting as Mentimeter's in-app AI Menti Builder.

  • If AI features are ON for your workspace (the default for Free, Basic and Pro subscriptions), connecting and creating Mentis from ChatGPT or Claude works as described above.

  • If AI features are OFF for your workspace (available for Enterprise and for Pro workspaces that opted out before the change to default-on), creating Mentis from ChatGPT or Claude will not work, even if the connection itself is set up.

  • Workspace owners and admins manage this setting in Workspace Settings → AI tools. See Manage your Workspace Settings for details.

If you've connected ChatGPT or Claude, but Menti creation isn't working, check with your workspace admin that AI features are turned on before troubleshooting further.

Disconnecting the AI tools

You can disconnect Mentimeter from ChatGPT or Claude at any time:

  • In ChatGPT/Claude: go to [Settings → Connectors] and remove the Mentimeter connection.

  • In Mentimeter: go to [Account settings → Connected apps] and revoke access. This immediately stops any future requests from that assistant, even if it's still shown as connected on the assistant's side.

Troubleshooting

  • "Mentimeter isn't in my connectors list"
Mentimeter’s availability may depend on your AI assistant plan, workspace settings and administrator permissions. Make sure you’re using the correct account and workspace. If you use a managed workspace, ask your admin whether Menti has been enabled.

  • “Menti is connected, but the assistant isn’t using it
Make sure Menti is enabled for the current conversation. Some AI assistants require you to mention (@) Menti directly in your request. If it still isn’t used, start a new conversation and try again.

  • "The assistant created a Menti but I can't find it"
Mentis are created in the Menti account you signed in to when connecting Menti to your AI assistant. To check which account is connected, open Menti from the AI chat. From Home, select your avatar in the top-right corner to view the account details.

  • “The assistant says it created a Menti, but I didn’t receive a link”
Ask the assistant to confirm that it used the Menti connection and to provide the link to the created Menti. If no Menti action appears in the conversation, the assistant may have drafted the content without actually creating a Menti.

  • "I get an error when trying to create a Menti"
Confirm both AI tools and AI assistant connections are on for your workspace (see above), and that your Mentimeter session hasn't expired. Then try disconnecting and reconnecting to see if the issue persists.

  • “I’m asked to approve the action”
Creating or changing a Menti may require your confirmation. Review the requested action and select Allow or Confirm to continue. If you dismiss or decline the request, no Menti will be created or changed.
