The Word Cloud, also known as wordle or word collage, is one of Mentimeter's most popular question types. Ask your audience a question and watch as their answers create a Word Cloud that grows, expands and transforms in real time.

The most common responses will appear larger so you can easily identify the most popular answers. This slide type will work best when the answers are expected to be short (up to 25 characters long) – if you need longer answers, you can use the Open Ended question type instead.

Watch this video to learn how to create a Word Cloud or read more below.

Creating a Word Cloud

Here's how you can create a Word Cloud in Mentimeter:

  1. Create a new slide

  2. Choose the Word Cloud slide type

  3. Fill in your question

That's it! Now it's up to your audience to fill the Word Cloud with their input.

Additional settings

In the Interactivity tab you can adjust different settings for the Word Cloud slide.

  • You can choose the maximum number of entries the audience is able to submit. Please note that two words separated by a space still count as one entry.

  • If you are think inappropriate words may be submitted by your audience, you can activate the profanity filter in the Settings menu (under Language Preferences), which will prevent those words from appearing in the Word Cloud.

Participation in the Word cloud

This is what it looks like when you receive responses from your audience in the Word Cloud. As you get more responses, the most popular words will appear bigger and bigger.

The word cloud can accept up to 400 unique words. If you receive more responses than that, the 400 most popular words will be visible on the screen.

Note: The Word Cloud does not display capital letters. In order to keep things simple and avoid unwanted duplicates, all responses will be displayed in lower case. The Open Ended slide type will accept capital letters, so if this is something that is important in your presentation, we recommend you use that instead.

Removing unwanted entries

In case your audience enters undesired words that haven't been captured by our profanity filter, or you simply want to remove certain entries or tidy up the results before exporting to PDF, you can remove input from Word Clouds and Open Ended questions. This can be done either in the Mentimote or directly on your presentation screen. For more info see: Remove input from Word Cloud questions.
