Whether it's part of a larger presentation, as a short energizer, or to test your audience's knowledge, a Mentimeter quiz is the perfect way to bring out a competitive spirit and create a fun experience.

You can include multiple quiz questions throughout your presentation and set correct answers to automatically calculate total scores, allowing you to reveal a final winner at the end of the competition.

How to create a Quiz competition

1. Select the Quiz Competition slide of your choice

There are two different types of Quiz Competition slides:

    • Select Answer slides give participants predefined options to choose from, just like a Multiple Choice Question.

    • In Type Answer Slides, participants need to write the answer themselves instead of choosing from a list.

To add a Quiz slide to your presentation, click the New Slide button on the left-hand side and select either the Select Answer or Type Answer slide type.

2. Select the correct answer

After you have entered the question title and added answer options on the Quiz slide, you will need to select or define a correct answer. You can begin by clicking on the slide body within the canvas area, which will display the Edit tab on the right-hand side.

Selecting the correct answer on a Select Answer slide

For marking an option as correct in the Select Answer question type, check the checkbox next to the option label under the Options section in the Edit tab.

Defining the correct answer on a Type Answer Slide

For the Type Answer slide type, you can specify the correct answer in the text field under Correct Answer. If there are additional acceptable answers, you can enter them in the text field under Other Correct Answers in the Edit tab.

Answers submitted in the Type Answer slide type are not case-sensitive. For example, if the correct answer is set as "apple," participants can enter "Apple," "APPLE," or "aPpLe," and all variations will still receive correct answer points.

Pro Tip: While presenting, you can also manually mark submitted answers as correct by clicking the red "X" next to an answer and changing it to a green check mark. This is particularly useful for handling situations like participant misspellings.

Customize your Quiz slides

By clicking on the body of the slide in the canvas, you can customize your Quiz slides and access the Edit tab on the right-hand side. Here are some ways you can customize your Quiz slides:

Please Note: These quiz features, such as scoring and leaderboards, are exclusively available for Quiz Competition slide types and do not work with the Interactive Question slides. To enable these features, kindly ensure you have selected the correct slide type. You can learn more about the differences between Quiz slides and Question slides here.

Select scoring setting

In the Edit tab, you can toggle the option More points for fast correct answers to decide the scoring setting you prefer for your Quiz:

  • More points for fast correct answers toggled ON: Participants try to answer as fast as they can and are rewarded between 1000 and 500 points for a correct answer, depending on how quickly they submit their response.

  • More points for fast correct answers toggled OFF: If the option is toggled off, then all correct answers will be awarded 1000 points. This is perfect for situations where you want to promote accuracy rather than speed.

For both of the above settings, incorrect or no answers give zero points.

Select the amount of time to answer

You can change the time limit for each question, giving participants more seconds to think or add extra pressure to keep them engaged and on their toes.

If you want to change the timer of your Quiz Competition slide, follow these steps:

  1. Select the body of the slide in the canvas area of your Quiz competition slide to access the Edit tab.

  2. Change the time (seconds) in the text field Seconds to answer.

Add music to your Quiz

If you would like to add some lively gameshow vibes to your Quiz, you can enable quiz music and choose from a selection of upbeat tracks provided.

To add music to Quiz slides:

  1. Select the body of the slide in the canvas area of your Quiz competition slide to access the Edit tab.

  2. Scroll down to the Music section and toggle Enable Quiz Music.

  3. Select the track you wish to play when you are presenting your quiz slide.

Add a leaderboard

With our Quiz Competition slides, you can also add a leaderboard slide to show the scoring of the top 10 participants. This slide can be added anywhere throughout the presentation and will display the total scores up to that point. You can add a Leaderboard after every question, just one final leaderboard at the end to reveal the final winner, or a combination of both.

If you wish to add a leaderboard after a Quiz Competition slide, follow these steps:

  1. Select the body of the slide in the canvas area of your Quiz competition slide to access the Edit tab.

  2. Toggle the Add leaderboard option in the right-hand sidebar.

If you would like to access the scoring for all the participants of your Quiz Competition, you can export the results to Excel on the Basic, Pro, or Enterprise plans.
