Is voting with Mentimeter anonymous?

Voting with Mentimeter is anonymous, as we don't set any Voting IDs on the voters or require them to log in. We believe that anonymous voting leads to more honest responses and that people are more willing to provide their input on different matters.

However, we have a few workarounds so that you, as a presenter, can analyze the results depending on certain attributes within the audience.

Identify individual voters using Open Ended or Quick Form slides

Since you can use Open Ended questions to allow your audience to provide free-text answers, this question type can also be used for collecting each voter's name, email, position, or another identifier of your choice. Please note that you should inform your audience that their input will not be anonymous if you do ask them for identifiers.

If you have a Pro, Teams or Enterprise subscription, you can also use the Quick Form slide for collecting sensitive information.

In your Excel export (available for all paid plans), you can then follow each individual voter to see what s/he answered on each question.

Identifying Voters with the Quiz Competition

If you are using our Quiz Competition slides, the audience will automatically be prompted with a randomized avatar as well as the opportunity to have a pre-defined screen name associated with the avatar or to type a name of their choosing into the screen name text box.

In the case you are facilitating a Quiz Competition, you can then ask your participants, prior to participation, to enter an identifier, such as their name, as their screen name. This will be their screen name for the duration of the Quiz competition, and will be available for reference by the presenter when exporting to excel. Note: the Excel Export is a paid feature, which requires at least a Basic subscription.

Segmentation for analyzing results in real-time

With Multiple Choice questions, you can segment the results according to the results of another question (provided that the other question is also a Multiple Choice slide). Use this for discovering similarities and differences within or between groups, in real-time.

You can read more about how to use segmentation here.

Note that in case you have smaller groups, you should notify your audience that you may be able to connect specific answers to certain people. As a presenter, you are responsible for the potential collection of personal data.
